Windows 7 RC1 Display Drivers for Dell Inspiron 1150

If you are still using Dell Inspiron 1150 which is having unsupported chipset for Windows 7 you must have faced display drivers issue. When you install Windows 7 beta or Windows 7 RC1 it will take you back to 1990s in terms of screen resolution.

Here is the solution:

1) Download the drivers from this link.

2) Restart the laptop in safe mode

3) Unrar the drivers in a folder

4) Install the drivers using Device Manager (Shortcut: Windows Key + Break -> Device Manager)

5) Restart

And you are done!

You are back to your old 1024x768 resolution.

Special thanks to my friend and colleague Kuntal for helping me find this.

I followed the steps for video resolution. I have 1024x768 but only 256 colors. Did I do something wrong. Dell Inspiron with Intel Graphis and P4 2.88Ghz.
I am going to try uninstall and re install again. I will let you know if that works.
Thank You
Bill

It installed with no issues in safemode (other than a warning about compatability) but when I boot back into normal mode I still do not have the ability to change the resolution

Hi Joshua, it seems you did the right thing and it should work. Try again and even if that does not work try it with a clean install.

NOTE: If you're having problems like I was, it's probably in the way you're updating the driver in the device manager. It only worked a certain way for me and I tried several ways.

I believe the way I tried was by right clicking on the VGA Adapter it had in there, selecting update the driver, and then going "Browse my computer for driver software". Then (the important part), I picked "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer", as opposed to the browse button above it. From there, I navigated to the drivers folder from the RAR file above.

I hope this helps someone as I got very frustrated.

Thanks Bobby... If you let it install by itself it will install a new video card and you will have the original standard vga in addition to to the correct driver and the system defaults to the standard vga. After selecting the standard vga according to Bobby's comments its worked great!!

Thanks again!

hey bobby are you trying with the production version of the windows 7 now? or still using the Beta? I have a feeling that it may work properly in recently launched production version of windows 7.

Tried it out on the RC 32-bit 7100 build and it took a couple of tries before it went through. Windows 7 at first disabled it, so I deleted it, went back into safe mode and tried again. Did need winzip to unrar the file as it gave me a dumb look the first time I double clicked the file. Whoever put this together gets a drink on me for sure. I was looking at a looong rollback to XP, plus I was going to up the RAM and would have wasted my money if I didn't get this worked out.

Dell should be updating these drivers anyway. Even with 512 MB of RAM Win 7 still installed and seems to operate somewhat normally. I'm sure now that I'm safe to bump the RAM to a gig this will work just fine and I can slap a regular version of 7 down the road.

Good luck and thanks again.

Hmm.. I can get the Driver loaded... but Win7 stops it due "to a problem" and I get a Code 43. I am running Win7 Pro.

this driver will not work for me with the Microsoft Trial of Win 7 Enterprise.
It worked with the RTM 7600 version but not the official release. Seems to me the systems should be the same. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello William, Yes I have tested it for only one version so it may not work for all. I am no longer working on Windows 7, I am on Mac now ;) so would not be able to help you on this. Hopefully some readers of this article may come up with a solution.
